Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Virtualization & Citrix Support Engineer with a strong background in virtualization technologies, VMware, Windows Server environments, and automation tools such as Ansible. Expertise in Infrastructure as Code is essential for this role. You will be responsible for the design, deployment, and management of the infrastructure platform, ensuring the availability, scalability, and performance of mission-critical systems. This role is suited to a seasoned, self-motivated professional with at least 5 to 8 years of hands-on engineering and administration experience across the technologies and products described below.
Responsibilities
Lead the design, architecture, and deployment of VMware ESXi and vSAN, along with vRealize Suite, Aria, SRM, and RP4VM solutions to support virtualization and application delivery needs.
Implement and manage vRealize Suite components, including vRealize Automation (vRA), vRealize Operations Manager (vROps), vRealize Log Insight, and vRealize Business for Cloud, to streamline infrastructure management, automation, and reporting.
Integrate Aria (formerly vRealize Orchestrator) with Citrix and VMware environments to automate routine tasks, workflows, and provisioning processes, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing manual effort.
Configure vROps to monitor the performance, capacity, and health of VMware and Citrix infrastructure, leveraging advanced analytics and predictive capabilities to identify potential issues and optimize resource utilization.
Collaborate with storage and networking teams to design and implement vSAN configurations, ensuring alignment with performance, capacity, and resilience requirements.
Develop custom dashboards, reports, and alerts in vROps to provide visibility into VMware ESXi and vSAN environments, enabling proactive monitoring and troubleshooting.
Lead performance tuning and optimization efforts for VMware infrastructure, analyzing metrics, trends, and utilization patterns to optimize resource allocation and improve system performance.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and IT staff, fostering knowledge sharing and skill development in VMware and related technologies.
Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and product updates in virtualization, cloud, and automation domains, evaluating their applicability and potential impact on IT strategy.
Manage the Wintel and VMware environment, addressing all business escalations related to end-point solutions in a timely and efficient manner.
Required Qualifications
Extensive experience designing, implementing, and managing VMware ESXi and vSAN infrastructure in large-scale enterprise environments.
In-depth knowledge of vRealize Suite, Aria (vRealize Orchestrator), SRM, and RP4VM, including configuration, customization, and integration with Citrix and VMware environments.
Proficiency in scripting and automation using PowerShell, Python, or similar languages for infrastructure orchestration and automation.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Proven track record of successful project delivery, technical leadership, and driving innovation in virtualization and cloud solutions.
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment.
Knowledge of Azure Stack, Hyper-V, Windows Servers, Citrix, and cloud computing platforms and hybrid cloud architectures is a plus.
Strong background in IT service delivery, with a proven track record of meeting business requirements and deadlines within budget.
Extensive experience in IT vendor and partner relationship management, and in implementing technology lifecycle and refresh processes.
Sound understanding of ITIL processes for change, incident, and problem management; relevant certifications preferred.
Well versed in project management methodology; certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2 are desirable.
Strong and effective communication skills with both business and technical leaders, including the ability to present to senior management.
A collaborative, adaptable team player who is keen to learn, innovate, and make sound decisions, with willingness to provide 24/7 ad hoc support as needed.
5 to 8 years of hands-on engineering and administration experience across the relevant virtualization, Citrix, and automation technologies.
