Role
We are looking for a Senior Technical Writer to own and evolve the developer documentation experience for a growing developer platform. This role will focus on public REST APIs, embedded integrations, webhooks, SDKs, and AI-enabled developer experiences.The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical writer who can independently understand complex technical concepts, collaborate closely with engineers and product managers, and build documentation that enables developers to integrate quickly and successfully.This is a builder role where you will own the documentation strategy, information architecture, quality standards, and overall developer experience.

Responsibilities

• Own the information architecture, content strategy, and quality standards for the developer portal, including guides, API references, recipes, and release notes.
• Audit and improve existing documentation by consolidating duplicate content, identifying gaps, retiring outdated information, and simplifying the path to a developer's first API call.
• Write clear and comprehensive integration guides for complex fintech workflows, including:
  • AP/AR payments and payment states
  • Vendor onboarding and BILL Network
  • KYC/KYB, compliance, and verification
  • Webhooks
  • Partner and embedded integrations
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to document new product launches, including OAuth, BILL Elements, MCP, and AI-related developer experiences.
• Create documentation based on PRDs, design documents, Figma files, API specifications, and other technical resources.
• Keep OpenAPI specifications, Postman collections, code samples, and documentation aligned and up to date.
• Optimize documentation for AI-assisted development, including structured content, Markdown output, llms.txt, and content that can be reliably consumed by AI assistants and agents.
• Build and maintain a partner-facing FAQ and self-service documentation to reduce repetitive support requests.
• Establish and maintain style guides, templates, documentation standards, and docs-as-code workflows.
• Work independently with engineers and product managers to gather technical information, identify ambiguities, and ensure documentation accurately reflects the product.
• Prioritize documentation initiatives based on developer needs, product priorities, and business impact.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in technical writing, with at least 4 years of experience documenting public REST APIs for external developers.
• Proven experience owning and improving a developer portal or technical documentation platform.
• Strong understanding of APIs and the ability to independently read code and make API calls.
• Hands-on experience with tools such as cURL, Postman, JSON, and at least one programming language such as JavaScript or Python.
• Experience working with OpenAPI specifications.
• Experience with documentation platforms such as ReadMe, Mintlify, Docusaurus, or similar tools.
• Experience with Git-based documentation workflows.
• Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with engineers, product managers, and other technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently, ask the right questions, and challenge unclear or incomplete requirements.
• Strong prioritization and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple documentation initiatives.

Nice to Have

• Experience in fintech, payments, financial technology, or embedded finance.
• Experience documenting SDKs, webhooks, or embeddable UI components.
• Experience using AI tools as part of a technical writing workflow.
• Experience creating documentation designed for AI assistants, agents, or LLM consumption.
• Experience with developer experience (DX) metrics or content analytics.
• Familiarity with metrics such as time to first API call and docs-driven support ticket deflection.
